The Way Forward — The First Consent

I do not want to let go.

I want to stay.

Will you be with me when life turns black and blue?
When my heart feels tired?
When the seasons change?

Because I will.

I do not let go easily.

I will do my best not to return to old patterns.
If I ever feel the urge to disappear, I will tell you.
If I need space, I will not vanish — I will communicate.

But let us not assume distance will happen.

Unless my nervous system is overwhelmed beyond reason, I will not create space the way I once did. And if distance ever comes again, it will not look the same. One day we can speak about that in detail.

There are qualities that brought us here.

Certain characteristics in you.
Certain strengths in me.

They are not accidental. They are part of who we are.

By acknowledging them, we understand our power.

We have already learned lessons on how to treat each other.
There are more lessons waiting for us — not to test us, but to refine us.

We cannot rely on luck or affection alone to carry us forward.

It is a daily decision.

To choose steadiness.
To choose effort.
To choose each other.

When I let something into my life, I do not let it in lightly.
And once it is inside, I do not want to lose it.

I do not attach out of impulse.
I choose carefully.

And when I choose, I plan.

We will grow by learning how to hold on — steady, but flexible. Strong, but not rigid.

We will build something that allows us to live fully as individuals — with friends, with family, in our own spaces — while still standing together.

Some conversations will feel obvious.
Some will feel tedious.
Some solutions may fail at first.

That is fine.

We will sit down.
We will adjust.
We will refine.

This is the beginning of walking the way forward.

Not by chance.

But by foundation.
